Entrepreneurial Giving: TOMS Shoes

I was lucky enough to discover two things at the same time; thanks to two gentlemen that decided they would take a chance on entrepreneurial giving. You can make a living by giving, and you can have a great time doing it.

Blake Mycoskie and Alejo Nitti, decided to take a chance, and it has payed off very well. Two years ago, they started TOMS shoes (http://www.tomsshoes.com/)

TOMS is based on an awesome entrepreneurial giving concept; for every pair of shoes they sell, they'll give a pair of shoes away. It's that simple. Now Blake travels the world fine-tuning the business, and Alejo travels around South America giving away about 1500 pairs of shoes every other week with volunteers from all over the world.

They've done two BIG 'shoe drops' that gave 10,000 pairs of shoes away to children in Argentina and 50,000 to the children in South Africa. I was lucky enough to travel with a great group of volunteers [Gavin, Elizabeth, Lindsey, Emma, Caroline, Melissa, Kelly, Dianne, Tracy, Alejo, Pepe, and Ana Maria] around the Misiones region of Argentina. Our shoe drop was March 29th - April 5th, and we gave away about 1500 pairs of shoes. You can see some great photos of our shoe drop at Melissa's photo site: (http://www.melissafullerimages.com/toms_shoes.html.
I give a huge HIGH-five to Blake and Alejo for following their dream, making life more comfortable, and allowing me to be a part of their incredible journey.
